ARCHAS Ltd is managed by Alastair Rees MA FSA Scot MCiFA who has over thirty years of experience in the Heritage sector. Alastair has extensive excavation experience principally in Scotland although he has also worked in Cyprus, Jordan and France, publishing widely in National Journals. Allied to his extensive excavation experience, he has worked in the Planning Department of a local authority and was latterly the Principal Consultant and Heritage team leader within a Multidisciplinary Environmental Project Team with Jacobs, a large International Engineering Company for over seven years.

Alastair was responsible for preparing and managing the Cultural Heritage chapters of Environmental Impact Assessments for some of the largest infrastructure Projects undertaken in Scotland in recent years.
Amongst these were: M80 Stepps to Haggs Improvements, Upper Forth Kincardine Crossing, Aberdeen Western Peripheral Route and the Queensferry Crossing. Alastair was involved in preparing tender documents, PQQ and ITT documentation for all of these projects prior to assessing tenders and managing the archaeological contractors. He also has experience of completing Heritage chapters for wind farms and other large developments. This experience ensures that ARCHAS Clients will receive advice and service from one of the most experienced Archaeological Consultants working in Scotland.

Alastair has appeared as an expert witness at Public local Enquiries and received expert witness and contract law training.

Field Archaeologists employed by ARCHAS Ltd are amongst the most experienced in the Heritage sector and ARCHAS Ltd have a policy of not employing any field staff with less than 5 years of field experience post-graduation. This ensures that unfortunate situations do not arise when inexperienced or junior staff are put into the field and make important and potentially very expensive decisions.
